His wisdom and encouragement was crucial in my musical journey. It could also be said that without his drumming, the rich and powerful musical contribution of John Coltrane&#8217;s quartet might not have had the same impact on music.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Many have argued that drums have not been played with such passion, zeal and maintained intensity before him.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>To have unwavering belief and entrenched commitment in the music we call jazz is paralleled by few.<\/p><p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0A gentlemen honored and respected by the giants of music, also a<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>man who always found time to embrace those who may have appeared or deemed insignificant to others. Elvins&#8217; accessibility to people big and small is testament to his exemplary character. There have been many analogies made of the power of his drumming. I like to interpret his drumming and musical contributions as a microcosm of his spirit.<\/p><p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 In professional sports a star athlete performing at an optimum level for ten years is astounding. For an amazing musician to perform at an extremely elevated level night after night for over 50 years is nothing short than unimaginable.
